Introduction To e-Learning

The term e-Learning covers a wide set of electronic educational applications and processes such as Web-based learning, computer-based learning, virtual classrooms, e-learning centres and digital collaboration. It includes the delivery of content via network, at e learning centre, through audio and video recordings tutorials, satellite broadcast, interactive TV, and CD-ROM as well as many, many others.

In other words, E-learning is the act of engaging in an educational course in an online setting. E-learning courses can exist in a variety of forms, using a range of technologies. Commonly used in organizations like schools and corporations, e-learning can help learners complete education and training objectives with greater ease and flexibility than traditional classroom-based learning.

E-learning courses can use a variety of techniques, including audio and video recordings, presentations, e-learning books, quizzes, surveys, games, and more.

E-learning courses can also be published online through a learning management system (LMS). An LMS allows for course creators to streamline e-learning content into one easy-to-access location. An LMS that is SCORM-compliant (shareable content object reference model) allows for easy integration of content and tools, and extends the availability of courseware to include courses authored by third parties.

What is e meaning?

The e stands for electronic, and electronic, literally, means having to do with electronsElectrons are the sub-atomic particles that move around us and give us energy in the form of electricity. The scientific symbol for electron is a small e”.

What are the benefits of e-learning?

E-learning provided lots of benefits in comparison to face-to-face or classroom learning.

Below mentioned are the benefits of e learning programs/courses:-

  • Low Cost:- An online training system/program reduces many costs that would normally be associated with classroom training, including travel, learning materials, venue, and catering. Important text packets and lesson plans can be updated quickly and easily, and since they remain online, can save on printing costs. In years past, updating and reproducing learning material would be costly and timely. Moving the learning experience online helps with both of those concerns.
  • Improved performance and productivity:- People are always looking for opportunities to grow. Online training allows employees and students to quickly get up to speed on new processes. One major complaint about older style training methods is that the time consuming nature of the programs take away from valuable time that could have been spent on other work. With Training Management Systems, employees/students can participate in their online courses at any time from any location – including at home, during down time at work, or anywhere else they feel is appropriate.
  • Convenience and flexibility:-E-learning means no boundaries. Employees/Students have the ability to participate in online courses from anywhere with an internet connection in PC or Smart Phone. This eliminates a lot of energy spent coordinating where and when a course will take place.
  • Timely feedback:-Employees/students are able to get real-time feedback during an online training course. Additionally, because everything is connected online. No manual evaluations of course work. If you want to include quizzes in your training, all course authors need to do is provide the correct answers, and the learning management system can automate the grading and evaluation.
  • Easier access to information:- We all know that referring back to sloppy hand-written notes taken during training sessions is not the most effective way to retain information. Online training helps take paper out of the equation altogether. E-learning materials are stored online, so every one can access important resources any time they encounter a question or difficult situation. And really, isn’t that the point of the training anyway?
  • Personalized learning:- Not every employee/student learns the same way. Even though the course material is consistent for all users, e-learning allows each individual learner to control the pace of the course. Because of the flexibility e-learning provides, users can also take the course in an environment more conducive to their learning style.
